The producers of AVENUE Q are delighted to announce that the show will be extending its run at the Noel Coward Theatre until July 28th 2007.
Star of the forthcoming TV series Torchwood Naoko Mori will take the role of Christmas Eve in the London production of AVENUE Q from November 20th.. Since the musical opened Christmas Eve has been played by original Broadway Cast member Ann Harada.
A successful TV presenter in her native Japan, Naoko is perhaps best known to British audiences as Saffy's best friend Sarah (AKA Titicaca) in Absolutely Fabulous. She was also the first Japanese national to play a lead role in the West End when she played Kim in Miss Saigon at the Theatre Royal Drury Lane. She has made numerous appearances on British TV including parts in Dr Who, Thieftakers, Bugs, Psychos and Spooks and is set to become a household name when she stars in the new series Torchwood in the role of Toshiko Satoin.
Naoko takes over the role of Christmas Eve from Ann Harada who has won huge acclaim for her portrayal of the struggling therapist in AVENUE Q both on Broadway where she created the role and in London. Ann Harada's final performance in the show will be on November 18th.
Since opening in June, AVENUE Q has been playing to hugely enthusiastic crowds and standing ovations. The irreverent, entertaining and funny show has proved highly addictive with many of its legion of fans having seen the show several times. A month of previews created a sensational word of mouth response to the production making it the must-see show in London this year.
The cast for the London production have won great acclaim for their performances, bringing the puppets to life with great energy, touching sensitivity and above all genuine hilarity. AVENUE Q is not the most upmarket of New York streets, and is about as far away from Park Avenue as you can get, but it is home to some lively and off the wall characters performed by an unholy comedic alliance of humans and puppets! Princeton, a bright-eyed college graduate, has just moved to this neighbourhood as he desperately tries to follow his dreams and discover his ever-elusive purpose in life. A tiny bank balance, the distraction of a busty blonde and a variety of weird and wonderful friends and neighbours lead Princeton on a hilarious story of self-discovery. Life may suck on AVENUE Q but being jobless, homeless, politically incorrect, having sex (whether hetero, homo or porno… and that's just the puppets) are just some of the topics featured in the terrific songs of this show.
The cast includes Jon Robyns as 'Princeton' and 'Rod', Simon Lipkin as 'Nicky' and 'Trekkie Monster', Julie Atherton as 'Kate Monster' and 'Lucy The Slut', Giles Terera as 'Gary Coleman', Ann Harada / Naoko Mori as 'Christmas Eve', Clare Foster as 'Mrs T.' and Sion Lloyd as 'Brian'. The cast also includes Luke Evans, Matthew J Henry, Gloria Onitiri, Jacqui Sanchez , Gabriel Vick and Yanle Zhong.
